ConocoPhillips - Laurentian Subbasin Basin Exploratory Drilling Program

Laurentian Sub-basin (NL)

December 16, 2005 -- The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board will conduct a screening commencing on December 16, 2005 of the project: ConocoPhillips - Laurentian Subbasin Basin Exploratory Drilling Program.

ConocoPhillips is proposing to conduct an exploratory drilling program in the Laurentian Subbasin area of the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore area. The program will include the drilling of up to seven wells. Drilling activities may commence as early as 2006, with each well requiring 40-60 days to complete. Drilling activities will be carried out through to 2010.

Under section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, an EA is required for this project because the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board may issue a permit or license under paragraph 138(1)(b) of the Canada-Newfoundland Atlantic Accord Implementation Act.
