Health Canada will conduct a screening commencing on November 24, 2006 of the project:
New Nursing Station, St Theresa Point First Nation, St Theresa Point, Manitoba.
The proposed facility will be constructed as a 4000 metres square stand-alone building with surrounding parking area. The facility will serve the St Theresa Point First Nation community of approximately 2200 residents, plus surrounding areas. It will utilize existing community water, waste, sewage, and electrical services, except for a new back-up diesel generator. The centre will house public health and nursing services including a pharmacy, dentistry, an x-ray lab and administrative support staff.
Under section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, an EA is required for this project because Health Canada may provide financial assistance to the proponent for the purpose of enabling the project and is the proponent for the project.
