Heath Point (QC)
November 27, 2006 --
Fisheries and Oceans Canada will conduct a screening commencing on November 27, 2006 of the project:
Remediation of the Pointe Heath site (Anticosti) - former lighthouse sector.
The Department of Fisheries and Ocean (Small Craft Harbours and Real Property) must undertake the remediation of metal- and oil-contaminated soil at the former Pointe Heath lightstation. The work will involve excavation of the contaminated soil. This project is separate from the oil spill project at the Pointe Heath telecommunications site (No 06-01-20835, No. SAPH 06-GQUE-LZ1-000-000002).
The assessment will examine the impact of the work on soil and surface water quality, vegetation, threatened plant species and wildlife in the work area and immediate surroundings. The assessment will be limited to the planned duration of the work (several weeks).
Under section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, an EA is required for this project because Fisheries and Oceans Canada is the proponent for the project.
