2007 A Comparative Phylogeography of Boreal Forest Birds

March 14, 2007 --
Environment Canada will conduct a screening commencing on February 28, 2007 of the project:
2007 A Comparative Phylogeography of Boreal Forest Birds.
Use genetic data to determine if these species contain population structure and identify possible refugia. These data will provide a clear understanding of how boreal bird species responded to glacial cycles associated with the Pleistocene.
Comparing the biogeographic histories among boreal forest songbirds and looking for congruent patterns which would imply shared histories, or if not congruent, other factors must be taken into consideration such as gene flow or differences in responses to glacial cycles.
Under section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, an EA is required for this project because Environment Canada may issue a permit or license under subsection 4(1) of the Migratory Birds Regulations.
