July 14, 2005 (Update) --
Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada will conduct a screening commencing on August 13, 2004 of the project:
Noble Bay Graphite Mine & Mill.
Construct and operate a graphite mine and mill site. 17,000 tonnes of graphite will be extracted annually. Liberation of graphite will be done without any chemical processing. Custom crushing and screening of the proposed quarry materials, combined with subsequent dry processing can upgrade material to 95% graphite concentration. Road upgrades, domestic sewage system and installation of power lines will be required to accommodate the proposed project.
Under section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, an EA is required for this project because Indian and Northern Affairs Canada may issue a permit or license under paragraph 58(4)(b) of the Indian Act and Fisheries and Oceans Canada may issue a permit or license under subsection 35(2) of the Fisheries Act.
Indian and Northern Affairs Canada will act as the Federal Environmental Assessment Coordinator for this environmental assessment.
