BEPCo. Canada Company - EL 2407 Exploration Drilling Program

Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency
News Release

Federal Funding Awarded to Participate in the Review of BEPCo. Canada Company Exploratory Drilling Proposal

OTTAWA – July 23, 2004 – The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency has provided $24,912 to two applicants to support their participation in the environmental assessment, by comprehensive study, of the proposed BEPCo. Canada Company exploratory drilling project.

The recipients are: Ecology Action Centre and the Native Council of Nova Scotia. The funding is available through the Participant Funding Program administered by the Agency.

A funding review committee, independent from the comprehensive study environmental assessment process, was appointed to examine all participant funding applications. The Committee members are: Ms. Colleen S. L. Mercer Clark; Mr. James B. Ross; and Mr. Bill Coulter, Director, Atlantic Region, Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency.

All of the Committee's recommendations were unanimous and are contained in the Report of the Funding Review Committee.

The project is subject to an environmental assessment under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. The federal Minister of the Environment recently determined that a comprehensive study is the most appropriate type of environmental assessment for the project. BEPCo. Company Canada is proposing a multi-year, multi-well drilling program to be located approximately 190 km offshore from Halifax.
