Public Comment Invited on the Comprehensive Study Report for the Proposed Galore Creek Mine Project

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) invites the public to comment on the conclusions, recommendations and any other aspect of the comprehensive study report prepared for the proposed Galore Creek Copper-Gold-Silver Mine Project in British Columbia.

Public comments received by February 19, 2007 will be considered. All documents received will be considered public and will become part of the public registry. Interested persons or groups are invited to send their remarks in the official language of their choice to:

Margaret Bakelaar, Senior Program Officer
Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency

In accordance with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Transport Canada and Environment Canada, the responsible authorities, have undertaken a comprehensive study of the project and have submitted their report to the Minister of the Environment and to the Agency. Following the public comment period on the report, and upon review of the comments received, the Minister of the Environment will issue an environmental assessment decision statement.

As the project also requires an environmental assessment certificate under British Columbia’s Environmental Assessment Act, a cooperative assessment is being conducted in accordance with the Canada-BC Agreement for Environmental Assessment Cooperation. Information on the provincial process can be obtained at www.eao.gov.bc.ca.

NovaGold Canada Inc. is proposing to construct and operate a copper-gold-silver open-pit mine approximately 350 km northwest of Terrace. The proposed project would include an access road, ore concentrate slurry pipeline, transmission line, processing plant, airstrip, waste rock storage and supporting infrastructure.

The comprehensive study report is available on the Agency's Web site. The public may also consult the report in the following centers:
