Crushed Granite Rock Quarry

Transport Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada will conduct a comprehensive study commencing on June 7, 2006 of the project:
Crushed Granite Rock Quarry.
Continental Stone Limited proposes to develop a rock quarry near the community of Belleoram on the south coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. The rock will be quarried and crushed on site using standard industry methodologies, loaded onto marine vessels, and shipped to international markets. The proposed development will include: removal of overburden; construction of an access road, marine terminal, and buildings; equipment setup; and drilling, blasting, and crushing operations. The scope of project will be posted when available.
Under section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, an EA is required for this project because Transport Canada may issue an approval under paragraph 5(1)(a) of the Navigable Waters Protection Act and Fisheries and Oceans Canada may issue a permit or license under subsection 35(2) of the Fisheries Act.
This project is also being assessed by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency will act as the Federal Environmental Assessment Coordinator for this environmental assessment.
