The department works closely with industry, economic development groups, the federal and provincial governments to develop and implement strategies that support the growth and diversification of strategic sectors. Sector development is supported through the Natural Stone Working Group comprising representatives from the department, industry, ACOA and the Department of Natural Resources.

Departmental activities in support of the sector include:
   an ongoing focus on developing local and export markets for
     natural stone through attendance at trade shows and conferences;
  information sessions for industry groups;
  examination of opportunities to expand the local market for natural
     landscaping stone; and
  the department partners with the Department of Natural Resources to
     produce natural stone promotional materials.
