The Labrador stone is prized for its rare combination of looks and strength. It's sold to fabricators across Western Europe who use it in all manner of architecture. Back here in Labrador, TUC employs almost 40 people and there are plans for expansion.
The company sees a future in secondary processing. In a year, they will open a plant in Hopedale that will produce headstone monuments and furniture. Five years out, other plants and an employee base of 100 people
are part of the vision.
TUC Enterprises is finding success by taking advantage of and adding value to
traditional resources. It just goes to show that today's rural Newfoundlander
and Labradoreans are making their own way. Right here at home. Rural communities
are making the most of opportunities to build success in a range of sectors,
from information technology to value-added manufacturing.
