With abundant physical resources, skilled workers and scientific and technical support, there is considerable potential for growth in the province's aquaculture industry. In 1997, the Newfoundland and Labrador aquaculture industry employed 471 people and produced 1,800 tonnes of products with a farm gate value of $5.1 million.
