The aquaculturist of the year was initiated by the Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry
Association and is awarded to an individual that has contributed to the overall
development of the industry. Individuals are nominated based upon a variety of
criteria and accomplishments.

Eligibility
|
The award is open to any former or current individual NAIA member engaged in
aquaculture-related activity in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Award and Context
|
1.

The Aquaculturists of the Year award recognizes an individual who best exemplifies the
aims and objectives of the Association.
|
2.
|
The Award recognizes significant achievements or accomplishments realized over
time in keeping with NAIA objectives, and not simply an accomplishment
in the
previous calendar year.

3.
|
The Primary objective of the Association is to promote, assist and foster the
development of commercial aquaculture activities in the Province.
|
4.
|
The Association's mission statement embodies these concepts in the following:
"The fundamental purpose of the Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association
is to assist the Aquaculture industry achieve its full wealth creation potential. It
is the voice for the industry by ensuring that Federal and Provincial legislation, policy
and services match the needs of the industry. It delivers programs and services to its
members to attain excellence in safety, environmental sustainability and profitability."

The recipient will be formally recognized with a plaque by his/her peers at a special ceremony
during the annual conference banquet. Complimentary travel and accommodations will be provided
to the recipient.
