Ice Temperature Control/Storage Requirements

Unprocessed fish that is being transported or awaiting processing, is required to be:
   

  • iced or chilled to maintain the temperature of the fish between 0 - 4° Celsius.
      
  • kept in an enclosure or area of containment with a relative humidity > 75%.
      
  • protected from physical damage, contamination and weather at all times.
      
  • stowed in a container with a depth of fish and ice not exceeding 90 cm. The  minimum distance between the fish and ice should be 4 centimeters from the top of the container.

Regulations

The Fish Inspection Act and the Fish Inspection Regulations provide the Authority for the Department to implement and monitor the Quality Assurance Program.
