Role Of The Deputy Minister & Assistant Deputy Ministers
  
The Deputy Minister (DM) of Fisheries and Aquaculture is the senior public servant who oversees the Department under the direction of the Minister. The Deputy Minister is the liaison between the elected official (Minister) and the Department’s employees (bureaucracy). The DM responds to the Minister’s policy guidance, provides strategic advice, oversees the Department’s administration, and may represent the Minister in meetings.

An Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) works closely with the Deputy Minister. He or she is tasked with overseeing the development and implementation of government and Departmental policies. The ADM of Fisheries is responsible for the licensing of fish processing plants, delivery of the quality assurance program, market development, facilities management, and regional delivery of services. The ADM of Aquaculture is responsible for implementation of the Department’s policies and programs in support of aquaculture development. The Executive Director of Policy and Planning oversees the policy development and strategic planning of the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
