This Division is responsible for interaction with many non-profit groups, voluntary agencies, consumer advocacy groups. It is also responsible for managing and processing requests for funding from community groups. These are non governmental groups, active in the Health and Community Services sector in the province. This does not include the Health and Community Services Boards, Integrated Boards or Health Care Corporations. The Division is responsible for facilitating Board appointments for the Health Care Boards and the other Boards for which the Department has a legal responsibility. There are 13 Health Care Boards and 20 others. The Division is also mandated to approve, work with and support the 32 Youth Justice Committees located throughout the Province.

This is a new Division within the Department’s structure and its functions are still being developed. Its purpose is to bring all Board appointments and the financial and other activities related to the various community groups together under one Division. As per the reorganization plan for the Department, the Division is responsible for:

The Department’s ongoing relations with consumer groups and their representatives, non-profit associations and their representatives.
Developing policies and procedures for groups applying for funding from the Department.
Analyzing and evaluating requests for funding by community agencies and approving monies within budget guidelines.
Co-ordinating the Department’s activities to support consumers, community groups, and other agencies in undertaking healthy public policy initiatives;
Ensuring the membership of the 33 Boards and Committees for which the Department is responsible is maintained according to the requirements of the legislation.
Providing support and direction to the Alternative Measures Coalition and the 32 Youth Justice Committees throughout the province.


Establishing database of agencies
Developing contracts and contribution agreements with groups
Establishing and managing the application procedure and guidelines for groups and organizations who wish to apply for funding from the Department
Liaising between groups, organizations, and the Department
Liaising with other Divisions who also have involvement with the groups and organizations related to their program and service delivery activities in the community
Review and maintain Board memberships as per the appropriate legislation
Alternative Measures
Departmental Contact for International Year of the Volunteer. This includes serving on provincial and interdepartmental Committees for IYV.
