Humberwood Centre

What and Where is Humberwood?
Humberwood Centre is an inpatient treatment program operated by the Addictions Services Division of the Department of Health and Community Services. It is set up to treat alcohol and other drug dependent persons and their families. Humberwood offers hope to those who want to be free from dependency on alcohol and other drugs. The Centre is located in Corner Brook. Activities in the treatment program include group therapy, education sessions, relaxation therapy, and family sessions.

The three week program at Humberwood includes three distinct phases. The program will provide care for you free of charge.

  • Week I
    • Orientation
    • Focus is on the physical aspects of dependency
  • Week II
    • Focus is on the emotional and personal aspects of dependency
  • Week III
    • Focus is on your relationships with family and others

Who Can Enter the Program?
The program is available to men and women eighteen years and older, who have an alcohol or other drug dependency. The only requirements are that you must not have used alcohol or other drugs for the five days prior to admission, and you must be willing to take part in the range of activities during the three week program.

How Can I Enter?
In order to enter, you must first be interviewed by an Addictions Services outpatient counsellor. After the interview, it will be decided whether your problem can best be treated at Humberwood or through outpatient counselling.

What About Follow-up?
Follow-up is an important extension of the treatment process. At the end of your stay at Humberwood, you will be referred to the outpatient staff of Addictions Services. They will either provide you with follow-up service at your local Addictions Services office or link you with a professional counsellor in your community.
