The National Library of Canada, in cooperation with Analekta Recording, presents the music of Sir Ernest MacMillan. This newly compiled compact disk entitled PORTRAIT: SIR ERNEST MACMILLAN, contains a selection of recordings from the MacMillan collection of the Music Division of the National Library.

Sir Ernest MacMillan made outstanding contributions to Canada's cultural heritage. His career embodied the role of musician, composer, conductor, administrator and educator. PORTRAIT offers its listeners the chance to own a part of Canada's musical history. Included on the disk are recordings of Prelude in E-flat Major by Bach, the overture to England composed by MacMillan and The Planets by Gustav Holst.

The work of Sir Ernest MacMillan should be known by all aspiring Canadian musicians and students of Canadian culture as a model of personal achievement and service to profession and country.
