Letter to Congress Regarding Smithsonian/Showtime Agreement
SAA has appealed to key members of Congress to continue working to “shed light on the secret contract between the Smithsonian Institution and Showtime to create a joint venture with some exclusive rights over use of the Smithsonian archives and staff.” Read the letter here.
Statement Deplores Destruction of Palestinian Cultural Property
The SAA Council has endorsed a July 21 statement by the International Committee of the Blue Shield that deplores the destruction of cultural property in the Middle East. The Council also voted to forward the ICBS statement to the Israeli Embassy in the US and to the Palestinian Authority, with a request that they investigate the veracity of articles indicating the destruction of the Nablus archives.
Nov./Dec. Archival Outlook Online
The latest Archival Outlook is available online for SAA members. Check out features on “How the SSA-SAA Emergency Disaster Assistance Grant Fund Has Helped Archives in Need” and “Breaking New Ground with IT, Ethnographic, and Heritage Preservation Programs,” as well as President Elizabeth Adkins's column on “Defining Diversity.” The print edition will be mailed to members at the end of November.
Greater New Orleans Archivists Thank SAA
In early October, the SAA office received a “Resolution of Commendation” from the Greater New Orleans Archivists to thank the Society for its efforts in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. [Read the Resolution.]

Developed by the 2006 Committee on Education and revised following broad distribution for member comment, the ACE Guidelines, which were approved by Council this fall, encourage opportunities for lifelong learning within the archival community and will serve as a general toolkit for providers and users of archival continuing education.
