Statement by the Prime Minister on the wreath laying ceremony

23 May 2006
Ottawa, Ontario

Today, Prime Minister Stephen Harper placed a wreath honouring fallen RCMP officers at a ceremony in Ottawa.

The Prime Minister issued the following statement:

“The Government of Canada pays tribute today to the brave men and women of the RCMP who have died in the line of duty.  These RCMP officers valiantly defended our way of life, and our rights and freedoms. They helped keep our communities safe. And they brought honour to their families, their fellow officers, this country and all its citizens.  I am proud to lay a wreath on behalf of all Canadians in their names, and in their honour.  They are gone, but will not soon be forgotten.”
