Prime Minister announces the date for the opening of Parliament

Ottawa, Ontario
The Prime Minister today announced that Parliament will return on Monday, April 3, 2006.
The Governor General, on the Prime Minister’s recommendation, has summoned Parliament to meet on April 3, 2006.
The election of the Speaker of the House of Commons will take place on that day, and the Speech from the Throne to begin the 1st Session of the 39th Parliament will be read by the Governor General in the Senate in the afternoon of April 4, 2006.
