Update - CPMA Regulatory Framework Review

The Regulatory Framework of the CPMA includes:

As previously announced, the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency (CPMA) is undertaking a comprehensive review of the regulatory framework respecting the regulation and supervision of betting on horse races in Canada.

The objective of this review is to ensure that pari-mutuel betting regulations stay current, by providing an opportunity for all interested stakeholders to share their views on how to provide for the most modern, efficient and effective approach to protecting the betting public.

To achieve the benefit of a broad consultative basis, the CPMA developed a Discussion Document which set out several themes for consideration when moving forward with a more modern and efficient regulatory model. The Executive Director of the CPMA would like to express his thanks to the many industry and public stakeholders who took the opportunity to share their thoughts and views concerning this important initiative.

Current Status

Having completed the most recent round of consultations, the CPMA is now pleased to present the proposed changes describing the government's revised approach to supervising pari-mutuel betting on horse racing. Readers are encouraged to review the package (Proposed Changes), and to share their views regarding how these proposed changes advance the expressed objectives of the review.

All interested parties should submit their comments to the CPMA by November 15th, 2007, to ensure that the review continues to advance in a timely manner and on a fully-informed basis. Contact information is contained within the document.
