30th National Canadian Police and Peace Officers' Memorial Service

The 30th National Canadian Police and Peace Officers' Memorial Service was held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Sunday, September 30, 2007. Once again, Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) employees attended the gathering to pay tribute to their colleagues who sacrificed their lives for the safety of our communities.

"I believe the families of these officers are simply asking that we remember them," stated Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, in his opening address. "That is why ceremonies like this are so important. Most citizens appreciate what officers do to keep them safe, but they may not fully understand the impact on your personal lives and that of your families."

As in past years, Commissioner Keith Coulter inspected the CSC Ceremonial Guard before the Memorial Service. The Ceremonial Guard then made its way to Wellington Street to take part in the peace officers' march, joined by the Wyoming Institution for the first time, and by members of the Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, New York Department of Corrections, for the second consecutive year.

The National Canadian Peace and Police Officers' Memorial Service is held every year and provides an opportunity for families, friends, colleagues and Canadians to pay tribute to the dedication of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
