FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Update on Public Interest Investigation into Allegations Involving the Kingsclear Youth Training Centre in New Brunswick
Launch of the Investigation
The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP (CPC) initiated a public interest investigation into complaints received relating to RCMP investigations of alleged sexual abuse at the Kingsclear Youth Training Centre in New Brunswick.
Status
Commission investigators began interviewing complainants and witnesses in September 2005 and have carefully reviewed all relevant materials provided to date. Approximately 150 formal interviews have been conducted as the investigation draws to an end.
After completing its investigation, uncovering and assessing the facts, the CPC is now in a position to finalize its report. In the next few weeks, however, it will accept and investigate any new information should it be deemed credible or can be substantiated.
The CPC has tentatively scheduled the release of the report for late 2007 in New Brunswick. If you are interested in being informed about the date and location of the release, please send an email to: Kingsclear@cpc-cpp.gc.ca.
Additional Information
As is its usual practice, the CPC will not be commenting publicly on the substance of the Kingsclear Public Interest Investigation until such time as it is completed.
