With her words, Canadian painter and writer Emily Carr (1871 – 1945) captured the sentiments of generations of Canadians.

Despite the fact that most of Canada's 30 million people live in cities, they continue to be inspired by Canada’s rugged wilderness regions.

Canada spans 9 984 670 km², making it the second largest country in the world after Russia. Canada includes parts of three oceans and the Arctic.

Throughout the year, Canadians retreat to rest and recharge in Canada’s forests, plains, mountains, wetlands, and lakes.

The Great Lakes, at the heart of this vast expanse, is a favourite destination. One of the lakes is Lake Superior, the second largest lake in the world and other lakes in Ontario inspired many paintings by Canada’s famed Group of Seven.

Canada’s dramatic landscape spans 10 provinces and three territories: Alberta, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and the Yukon.
