Director Ang Lee's sexy spy thriller Lust, Caution has snagged a leading 12 nominations for this year's Golden Horse Film Awards, Taiwan's version of the Oscars.
Among the film's dozen nods, Lee is nominated for best director, stars Tony Leung and Tang Wei are nominated for their lead performances and the movie is up for the coveted best film trophy.
Lust, Caution netted director Ang Lee his second Golden Lion Award at the 2007 Venice Film Festival.

Other best film nominees include The Home Song Stories, Tuya's Marriage, Getting Home and What on Earth Have I Done Wrong.
Tang, the female lead in Lust, Caution and a newcomer who made her on-screen debut in the film, will compete for the best lead actress trophy against movie veteran Joan Chen, who is nominated for her role in The Home Song Stories. Also nominated in the category are Li Bing Bing (The Knot) and Yu Nan (Tuya's Marriage).
Leung, one of the most famous faces of Chinese, Hong Kong and Taiwanese cinema, faces competition for lead actor from Aaron Kwok (The Detective), Zhou Benshan (Getting Home) and Gurmit Singh (Just Follow the Law).
In September, Lee's espionage thriller — set in the Japanese-occupied Shanghai of the 1940s — picked up the Venice Film Festival's top prize, the Golden Lion. It was Lee's second such win, with his film Brokeback Mountain claiming the Italian honour in 2005.
Despite the accolade for Lust, Caution, the film has been plagued by anxiety over its steamy sex scenes and other segments showing violence — 30 minutes of which Lee cut for the film's release in China. He chose not to make any cuts for the North American release.
Organizers will hand out prizes in approximately two dozen categories at the 44th Golden Horse Awards gala, to be held Dec. 8 in Taipei.
The evening will also include a tribute to filmmaker Edward Yang, one of the pioneers of the Taiwanese New Wave. Yang died of complications from colon cancer in July.
