CBC Records triumphs again at Juno awards

(Toronto – April 2, 2007) CBC Records brought home two Juno awards in the Classical music category, last night, bringing the recording label's Juno count to 28.

"These awards reflect the excellence of the releases from CBC Records," said René Bourdages, President, CBC/Radio-Canada Merchandising Division. "The Juno Awards celebrate the best in Canadian musical talent and CBC/Radio-Canada is proud of the role it plays in supporting and promoting Canadian artists."

Recognised for virtuosity on the winning album, Mozart Violin Concertos, James Ehnes and the Mozart Anniversary Orchestra won in the Large Ensemble or Soloist(s) with Large Ensemble Accompaniment category. This marks the third Juno for Ehnes' recordings on the CBC Records label. Also winning her third Juno is soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian, who along with tenor Michael Schade and baritone Russell Braun, won in the Vocal or Choral Performance category, for their Mozart CD, Arie e Duetti, with the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra conducted by Richard Bradshaw. Both winning CDs present the music of Mozart, recorded for the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth.
