2. Becoming a network contributor

Our organization is interested in becoming a CHN network contributor. How can we get a link to our web site put on the CHN?

The Canadian Health Network (CHN) currently has over 1,600 network contributors. To find out who our network contributors are and the important role they play in the CHN, please go to The CHN Collaboration and look for 'Network Contributors' at the bottom of the page.

The CHN does not link to the web sites of individuals. Only organizations can become CHN network contributors.

The following mandatory criteria must ALL be met before the CHN will link to your organization's web site:

  1. The organization must be a registered non-profit organization.

  2. The organization must be Canadian.

  3. The organization must have the expertise and relevant content about one or more of the content areas that the CHN focuses on. For the complete list of groups and topics, please visit our homepage.

  4. The organization must have timely and credible information on health promotion and disease and injury prevention.

If your organization meets all of the above criteria, please e-mail us at: chn-info-rcs@phac-aspc.gc.ca

When you write to us, please include the following information:

  • Your organization's name.
  • A contact name.
  • A phone number where the contact person can be reached during the day.

DON'T FORGET to include the link to your organization's web site.

Once we receive your information and the link to your site, we can evaluate the resources to determine if they meet our quality assurance criteria and fall within our scope of health promotion and disease and injury prevention.

3. Medical advice

I need advice about a medical problem. Can the CHN give me this advice?

The CHN can't give you medical advice or treatment options. Our web site offers information on health promotion and disease and injury prevention, helping individuals and communities make informed health decisions that improve the quality of their life.

If you have a medical problem or health concern, please contact a qualified health professional.

5. Employment with the Canadian Health Network

I am interested in working with the Canadian Health Network. Where do I apply?

Since the Canadian Health Network is part of the Public Health Agency of Canada, the majority of jobs are in the federal government. However, jobs occasionally do become available in the non-profit sector through our Affiliate Organizations.

When full-time positions become available within the CHN Division offices at the Public Health Agency of Canada (in Ottawa, Ontario), they are posted on the Government of Canada's Jobs web site at: www.jobs.gc.ca. We do not generally keep unsolicited resumes on file.

You can visit Charity Village for a list of job opportunities in the non-profit sector.

6. Reprinting articles from the Canadian Health Network

Our organization would like to reprint CHN articles in our employee newsletter. Do we need to get permission?

You don't need the CHN's permission to reproduce our articles if:

  • It's for personal use. For example, it's fine to print articles for a class project or to link to CHN resources for use in a classroom.
  • It's for internal use. For example, you can use CHN articles in an employee newsletter or on an employee Intranet.

If you do use our articles, we only ask that you:

  • don't modify the text
  • provide them at no charge
  • identify the Canadian Health Network (CHN) as the source - there's usually a credit line at the bottom of the article
  • kindly notify us in advance by sending an e-mail to: chn-info-rcs@phac-aspc.gc.ca.

When do you need to have permission?

If you're planning to use the articles for any purposes other than for personal or internal use, you need to get written permission.

For example, you need to have written permission if you want to:

  • use CHN articles externally, such as in a commercial publication
  • modify articles
  • translate articles
  • use any logos, symbols, photographs or any other graphic material.

In some cases, you will only need to get the permission of the CHN Division at the Public Health Agency of Canada. But it's possible that in other cases, the material may be the 'intellectual property' of one of our Affiliate organizations or Network Contributors. If that's the case, you will need to get their permission before you can use the material. We can help you determine whose permission is required.

For more information or to request permission to use or reprint CHN material, please e-mail us at: chn-info-rcs@phac-aspc.gc.ca.
