Enhancing girls' education in Afghanistan

Canada, through the Aga Khan Foundation’s Girls' Education Support Program, is increasing its commitment to improving Afghanistan’s education system. More than 100,000 girls and 4,600 teachers will benefit from an $8-million contribution.



Haiti: renewal of the MINUSTAH mandate

The mandate of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) has been renewed for one year. Canada contributes as many as 100 civilian police officers to MINUSTAH, has 4 military personnel serving in key positions in the mission, and has deployed 8 Canadian corrections experts to assist in the reform of Haiti’s corrections system.
OECD review of Canadian development cooperation program now online

The review noted positive achievements, including a promising whole-of-government approach to working with fragile states such as Haiti and Afghanistan, effective support to humanitarian action, a reconfirmed commitment to Africa, and continued aid increases to meet commitments made in Monterrey, Mexico.

Mosquito net distribution campaign underway in Madagascar

The Canadian Red Cross and thousands of volunteers distributed more than 500,000 nets as part of a national campaign during October 22-30, 2007. Providing mosquito nets to families is made possible with the support of CIDA and individual donors.
Universal Children’s Day is November 20

CIDA is committed to children rights and protection. Development assistance has improved the lives of many children through programs in health, education, nutrition, access to water and sanitation, and family incomes.
