The Canadian Museum of Civilization began its life in May 1856, as part of the Geological Survey of Canada. The young museum grew into the National Museum of Canada and then, into the National Museum of Man. In 1986, it became the Canadian Museum of Civilization, moving into its magnificent Gatineau building three years later.

Treasures of the Tsimshian from the Dundas Collection

Admire spectacular 18th and 19th century works from the Tsimshian people. The objects, ranging from everyday items to ceremonial and decorative works, illustrate the rich cultural and artistic heritage of this Pacific coastal First Peoples. The 37 artifacts are from the Dundas Collection, one of the most important collections of North American First Nations art. This travelling exhibition marks the first time the collection has been on public display in almost 150 years.
This touring exhibition was organized by the Royal BC Museum and sponsored by WESTERKIRK CAPITAL.
