DIAND has responsibility for administering Crown land and water resources in the North. It does this through the development and implementation of policies, legislation, regulations and programs offered primarily in through DIAND's regional offices in NWT and Nunavut

Effective April 1, 2003, responsibility for the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development's Northern Affairs Program (land and resource management) transferred to the Government of Yukon.
