Yes I Can!

The Yes I Can! Project, initially funded by Industry Canada, is Canada’s premier scientific educational resource for K-12 teachers. Through the Internet, teachers at all levels can access an extraordinary database of material dedicated to science education. The Yes I Can! Database contains over 5,000 exceptional resources organized into four unique categories:

  • Classroom lesson plans;
  • Labs, demonstrations and classroom activities;
  • Assessment tools, performance indicators; and
  • Background information for teachers.

All these resource types are directly linked to curriculum outcomes which are outlined in the Common Framework of Science Learning Outcomes – Pan-Canadian Protocol for Collaboration on School Curriculum K-12 document, Canada’s only national curriculum framework, approved in 1997 by the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC).

The primary focus of the Yes I Can! Project is to facilitate the development of a high level of scientific literacy in both students and teachers.

Resources in the Yes I Can! database have been designed to demonstrate to students that science can be educational, engaging, and enjoyable. The resources, which have been contributed by a wide range of Canadian business and educational institutions such as AECL, are designed to be informative, educational, interesting, and fun! Through classroom experiences, students develop an appreciation for Science and are encouraged to pursue careers in Science and Science-related industries in Canada. The Yes I Can! Project team believes that engaging students in Science and encouraging science literacy today is essential to the future success of all Canadians.
