MARGAREE LODGE UPGRADING FACILITIES

MARGAREE FORKS, N.S. -- In response to the changing tourism market, the Margaree Lodge is in the process of upgrading its facilities with assistance from the Government of Canada.

Tourism industry research, compiled and analyzed by Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation, indicates that the tourism market is constantly changing and consumers are increasingly traveled and sophisticated. They have high expectations and are demanding when it comes to quality, service and value.

With its excellent location overlooking the world renowned Margaree Salmon River and picturesque Margaree Valley, the Margaree Lodge can offer today's travellers a variety of activities including hunting, fishing and sightseeing. To help the facility further meet the needs of discriminating travellers, the Lodge's modernization project will include renovations to the existing building and pool, as well as land improvements, improved signs and the purchase of furniture and fixtures.

The total estimated cost of the project is $180,000. Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation will make a repayable contribution of $80,000 through the Business Development Program.

“The Government of Canada recognizes that infrastructure must be in place to service a market that demands top quality accommodations. Cape Breton Island's tourism industry and its infrastructure will continue to thrive through partnership projects like this one," said the Honourable Bernie Boudreau, Leader of the Government in the Senate and Minister responsible for Nova Scotia, who announced the Government of Canada funding on behalf of the Honourable George Baker, Secretary of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation.

"Today's tourists seek good quality, comfortable facilities with contemporary decor, amenities and lots of space," said Werner Buchhofer, President, Margaree Lodge Limited. "This project allows us to upgrade our facility, enhance its overall appearance and provides us with the ability to increase the marketability of our business. We appreciate the Government of Canada's support for our major investment in improving our facility."

Established in 1952 and located at the junction of the Ceilidh Trail and the Cabot Trail, the Margaree Lodge is one of the oldest establishments in the Margaree's.

Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA's programs on Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
