Government of Canada offers Support for the Revitalization of Dominion
Dominion, N.S. -- The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of State responsible for Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC) and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), announced today, Government of Canada funding for the revitalization of the commercial core of Dominion.
Cape Breton County Economic Development Authority (CBCEDA) will work with volunteers in the community to facilitate the project. The funding will support infrastructure improvements to the commercial district and the Miners’ Memorial Park.This first phase will include sidewalks, curbs and roads and the purchase and installation of light standards.
“This support will help revitalize Dominion and contribute to an already strong sense of community,” says Rodger Cuzner, MP for
Bras d’Or - Cape Breton, speaking on behalf of Minister Byrne. “From an economic development perspective, it will create an environment that will be conducive to additional investment and further economic growth.”
The total estimated cost of the project is $268,000. Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation will provide a non-repayable grant of $65,000 through its Community Adjustment Fund.
The Community Adjustment Fund is designed to assist communities most affected by the closure of DEVCO in their efforts to diversify their economic base.
Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA's programs on Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
