Cultural Centre under Renovation
Glendale, NS – The Father John Angus Rankin Cultural Centre in Glendale
is undergoing renovations with $20,000 in assistance from Enterprise Cape
Breton Corporation (ECBC).
“Community development is crucial to sustain a vibrant Cape Breton,” says
Rodger Cuzner, MP for Cape Breton-Canso on behalf of the Honourable Joseph
McGuire, Minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and
Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation. “The Glendale Cooperative Society is a
group of dedicated Cape Bretoners who have realized their goal to benefit
the local community.”
As the common gathering place, the Cultural Centre currently houses a
gallery, gift shop, CAP site, weaving room, music room and historical
archives. The funding will result in improvements to the heating system, the
development of two new rooms and the installation of accessible washrooms.
These upgrades will enhance existing activities, extend the facility’s
operating season and generate additional community and tourism usage.
“With assistance from the Government of Canada, we will be able to continue
to grow community pride by celebrating our heritage and culture, “says
Donnie MacInnis, President of the Glendale Cooperative Society.
The total cost of this project is $25,000. ECBC will provide a non-repayable
contribution of $20,000 through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s
Strategic Community Investment Fund (SCIF).
The Strategic Community Investment Fund provides $135 million over five
years to help communities in Atlantic Canada create an environment that
encourages and enhances economic development.
Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic
development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA's programs on
Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
