Louisbourg Waterfront to be Re-vamped

Louisbourg, NS
–– A project to improve the Louisbourg Waterfront was announced today by Rodger Cuzner, MP for Cape Breton-Canso.

The Louisbourg Harbour Authority is upgrading amenities at the Louisbourg harbour to better accommodate pleasure crafts, motor coaches and other visitors. The project includes improvements to access, upgraded berthage, landscaping, lighting, boardwalk construction and expanded services to transient boaters.

“The Government of Canada is pleased to support this project,” says
MP Cuzner, on behalf of the Honourable Joseph McGuire, Minister for Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC) and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). “It is aimed at attracting visitors and encouraging them to stay longer. It capitalizes on attraction of the Fortress of Louisbourg and the town’s position as a waterfront community with a working harbour.”

“Louisbourg is a world-class tourist destination,” says Lloydette MacDonald, Manager of the Louisbourg Harbour Authority. “These plans will only prove to enhance its reputation, and the economy of the area.”

The total cost of the project is $1.4 million. ECBC will make a non-repayable contribution of $350,000 through ACOA’s Business Development Program.

Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA's programs on Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
