Telile Community Television Expanding to New Technology Centre
Isle Madame N.S. – With the help of Canada’s New Government, Telile
Community Television is happily preparing to build a new technology centre.
The new facility, to be located in Arichat Nova Scotia, will house a
professional television studio with upgraded industrial broadcast equipment
and will boast digital editing and post-production capabilities.
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the
Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) announced today that an
investment of $500,000 would be made through ACOA’s Business Development
Program (BDP) and an additional $250,000 would be contributed through
Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC).
“Canada’s New Government understands the importance of supporting and
promoting new communication technologies,” said Minister MacKay, Minister of
Foreign Affairs and Minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
“Through this important investment, we are building stronger communities and
providing the people of Nova Scotia with the resources and tools they need
to be inspired, grow and succeed”.
Residents of Isle Madame have set in motion a number of plans to transition
the community and build a modern, diverse and adaptable economy. Today, Isle
Madame stands tall as an example of community-driven development. Telile
General Manager Gloria Hill said this project is a perfect example of that
type of community strength. “This dream became reality due to a tremendous
amount of community support,” she said. “The new centre will give us a
greater capacity to serve our residents and the new digital capabilities
will allow for us to partner with other organizations in Richmond County.”
Founded in 1994, Telile Community Television has grown into a
self-sufficient non-profit business, providing community programming to the
residents of Richmond County. Telile transmits from the Lower River/Evanston
area on the RUSH and SEASIDE cable systems. Telile provides a wide range of
bilingual programming and - as part of its mission statement - stimulates
human, social, and economic development in the community of Richmond County.
Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic
development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA’s programs on
Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
