Canada’s New Government invests $240,000 in Cranton Cross Road Community Centre

Northeast Margaree, N.S. - Residents in the Northeast Margaree area will now enjoy the facilities of a new community centre thanks to a contribution from Canada’s New Government. The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) announced today a non-repayable contribution of $240,000 to the Cranton Cross Road Community Centre.

“Canada’s New Government is getting things done for the people of Northeast Margaree by providing funding for tourism initiatives on Cape Breton Island,” said Minister MacKay. “Thanks to our investment of $240,000, this centre will become a focal point for a variety of community activities and compliment the existing tourism related amenities in the surrounding area.”

The members of the Cranton Cross Road Community Centre have transformed the former Northeast Margaree School into a community centre that will host community activities and cultural events. The Centre includes meeting space and small conference facilities, business offices and potential incubator space as well as a community space and kitchen.

“The centre will be a gathering place for the entire community. It also provides us with a venue that will cater to the needs of residents and tourists to the area,” said David Fraser, Treasurer for the Community Centre. “The Centre meets the growing need for tourism, cultural, social and recreational space. All members of the community are extremely excited.”

The Cranton Cross Road Community Centre was officially opened today. The total cost of the project was $399,000.

Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA’s programs on Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
