MINISTER STRAHL ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF PATRICIA ENUAPIK TO THE NUNAVUT IMPACT REVIEW BOARD

OTTAWA (October 19, 2007) - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, today announced the appointment of Patricia Enuapik to the Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB).

“Ms. Enuapik is a dedicated member of her community,” said Minister Strahl. “We look forward to her future contributions to the Nunavut Impact Review Board.”

Ms. Enuapik is actively engaged with activities on the land including boating, fishing and hunting. She currently works as Constituency Assistant in the office of Hon. Levinia Brown, Deputy Premier of Nunavut. Previously, she has worked in a variety of roles including Home and Community Care Worker (2002 – 2004) and Acting Finance Officer for the Hamlet of Whale Cove (2001). Ms. Enuapik resides in Whale Cove, Nunavut.

The NIRB is the institution created by the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement to protect the integrity of the Nunavut Settlement Area ecosystem and promote the well-being of its residents. The NIRB screens, reviews and assesses projects and activities in Nunavut that may have environmental and socio-economic impacts. The Board conducts its work in collaboration with government, Inuit and communities, and makes recommendations on impact reviews to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. 

The NIRB has nine members. Four members are nominated by Inuit organizations, two members are nominated by the Government of Canada and two members are appointed by the Territorial Government. The chair is appointed by the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in consultation with the Government of Nunavut.
