Income of Individuals, Families and Households
The median income of Canadian families was essentially unchanged between 1990 and 2000; the 10% of families with the highest incomes experienced substantial gains.
Government transfer payments declined for the 70% of working-age families with the highest incomes; they increased for the 30% with the lowest incomes.
Low income rates continued to decline for the population aged 65 and over; for children, low income rates did not change over the past decade.
Social and Economic Characteristics of Individuals, Families and Households
In 2001, the average monthly cost of housing (including rent or mortgage, utilities, and property taxes) for Canadians was $835 for owners and $648 for renters.
Religions in Canada
Canada still predominantly Roman Catholic and Protestant.
Growth in Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism as a result of recent immigration trends.
Increase in those reporting "No religion": 16% of the population in 2001.
