Appointments

This site provides information on Ministerial and Governor in Council appointments to various Boards, Commissions, Tribunals, Committees and Advisory Bodies within the mandate of the Minister of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

There are two similar but distinct appointments made or recommended by the Minister:

  1. Ministerial Appointments, which are made directly by the Minister;

  2. Governor in Council appointments, which are made by the Governor General on the advice of the Minister and the Queen's Privy Council of Canada.

Strong leadership is a key component of effective governance of Boards, Commissions, Tribunals, Committees and Advisory Bodies. In order to have strong public institutions, the right individuals with the necessary expertise and skills set are essential. This is why the guiding principles for Ministerial and GiC appointments are that they be competency-based, professional and accessible to all Canadians.
