The Government of Canada is committed to working together to strengthen its relationship with Canada's First Nations. As part of this commitment, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) will be introducing a Secure Certificate of Indian Status (CIS), commonly referred to as the Status card.
This new reliable identity document is one means for all partners to continue to work to address concerns around the broader goal of improving the quality of life of Canada's Aboriginal peoples by ensuring that eligible individuals receive services and benefits quickly and efficiently.
