The International Relations Directorate (IRD) was established in the early 1990s and provides a focal point in the engagement of international and indigenous issues within and outside the Department. This engagement involves working within the international environment in a way that advances and supports the Departments policy and programs and overall Government policy objectives and ensures the consideration of Aboriginal (indigenous)* perspectives.
