Cet appel de demandes a comme objectif de financer la création ou le développement d'équipes de recherche qui entreprennent des recherches en collaboration sur le VIH/sida. Les équipes admissibles devront compter au moins trois chercheurs indépendants formant une équipe de recherche intégrée et efficace et qui n'ont pas travaillé ensemble sur le même problème ou la même question pendant plus de cinq ans. Ces subventions devraient permettre à de telles équipes de renforcer leur capacité et de gagner de l'expertise, d'élaborer des stratégies pour l'application des connaissances, d'offrir des milieux supérieurs de formation et de mentorat et de garantir l'excellence en recherche, de sorte qu'à la fin de la période de financement elles soient en mesure de concurrencer d'autres équipes lors de grands concours de financement.
Un total de 17 lettres d'intentions ont été reçues et, parmi celles-ci, 10 ont été retenues. Par conséquent, les candidats suivants seront invités à envoyer une demande complète pour le 1er mai 2007.
