SBC develops, distributes, and supports building energy simulation software for the Canadian construction industry. These software tools are used by architects and engineers to optimize the energy performance of building designs and to demonstrate compliance with the Model National Energy Code and Natural Resources Canada programs such as R-2000 and the Commercial Building Incentive Program.

Our software has residential and commercial application in both domestic and international markets, and is categorized according to the following sections: Lighting and Daylighting, HVAC, Building Envelope and Windows, Whole House Design and Performance, and Whole Building Performance.

Renewable Energy Technologies

For design and analysis software, resource assessment tools, and publications in all areas of renewable energy in Canada, please visit the CanREN Web site.

The Canadian Wind Energy Atlas Web site offers meteorological tools and data for Canada's wind energy industry. Maps representing the average wind velocity and power in Canada, as well as corresponding geophysical characteristics, and downloadable data files are available.

The International Small-Hydro Atlas Web site provides access to assessment tools that help developers, owners and investors in assessing, planning, or operating their small hydro projects of more than 50 kW and less than 10MW installed capacity.

The RETScreen ® International Web site, managed by CETC-Varennes, offers clean energy project analysis software that can be used world-wide to evaluate the energy production, life-cycle costs and greenhouse gas emission reductions for various types of energy efficient and renewable energy technologies. The software also includes product, cost and weather databases, and a detailed online user manual. Training material and project case studies are also available.

Communities

Download the Community Energy Planning (CEP) Methodology, Volume 1 and Volume 2 . A complimentary planning tool to municipal legislation, the CEP promotes community sustainability by developing projects that prioritize efficiency in the use of energy and energy resources. Volume 3 (available in English only) contains case studies of initiatives that have been undertaken throughout Canada and the world and can be obtained by emailing Ken Church.
