First Nations Child and Family Services Program

Program Description

The First Nations Child and Family Services Program supports First Nations agencies that offer services to children and families living on reserves. The program ensures that services provided to children and families reflect First Nations cultures.

Program history/background

The First Nations Child and Family Services Program is delivered by agencies run by First Nations and mandated by the host provincial government.

The program offers services that work to improve individual and family safety and well-being to protect all children living on reserves from neglect and abuse. In cases of neglect or abuse, First Nations Child and Family Services Program agencies are involved in placing children in foster homes, group homes or institutions.

Program Eligibility

The programs serve First Nation individuals registered or eligible to be registered under the Indian Act and resident or ordinarily resident on a reserve.
