Post-Secondary Education Program

Program Description

The Post-Secondary Education Program helps Status Indians and Inuit students attending recognized post-secondary education programs with their tuition fees and the cost of books. When applicable, the program also provides a travel and living allowance.

Program history/background

The Post-Secondary Education Program has two components.

  • The Post-Secondary Student Support Program provides education and skill development opportunities at the post-secondary level to eligible First Nations and Inuit students.
  • The Indian Studies Support Program funds First Nation education organizations, post-secondary institutions and other eligible Canadian post-secondary institutions to develop and deliver special programs for students who are registered as Indians.

Program Eligibility

Status Indian students residing on or off reserves and resident in Canada for the last 12 months are eligible for the Post-Secondary Education Program. Support is subject to the selection criteria defined by the First Nation. Inuit students are also eligible.
