Family Violence Prevention Program for First Nations

Program Description

The Family Violence Prevention Program seeks to prevent family violence, to help those who face violence in their homes and to raise awareness of related issues. The program funds 34 shelters on reserves and reimburses shelters located off reserves for services provided to First Nations people who ordinarily live on a reserve. This program also funds community-based family violence prevention programs.

Program Eligibility

Shelters on reserves are eligible for operational funding. Off-reserve shelters may be reimbursed for services used by First Nations people ordinarily resident on a reserve. To be eligible for funding, community-based projects must aim to reduce incidents of violence on reserves.
