National Child Benefit First Nations Reinvestment

Program Description

The National Child Benefit provides communities with resources to design and implement programs and services to improve the lives of low-income parents and their children.

The three objectives of the National Child Benefit are to:

  • help prevent and reduce child poverty;
  • encourage ongoing employment; and
  • harmonize program objectives and benefits, and simplify administration.

Program history/background

The National Child Benefit was introduced in 1998. Federal, provincial and territorial governments, and First Nations work together to deliver the program.

Program Eligibility

This program is available for low-income families with children living on reserves.
