Indian Moneys Program

Program Description

The Government of Canada looks after Indian moneys for certain First Nations children and adults who are unable to do so themselves. This includes collecting, managing and releasing trust moneys held in departmental trust accounts on behalf of these individuals.

When managing the property of individual Indians, INAC acts like a provincial public trustee. Specifically, the Department ensures that funds are properly credited to the individual's account and that the account is properly maintained. The Department also authorizes the release of funds from these accounts.

Program Eligibility

There are many factors that determine the requirement for INAC to set up an account on behalf of a First Nation child or dependent person.

Contact Information

For more information on eligibility, or on the program, contact INAC toll-free at 1 800 567-9604.
