Paperless CWB a step closer with launch of e-permits

June 20, 2007

Winnipeg – The CWB today announced the launch of e-Permits, the latest in a series of online services for farmers at www.cwb.ca. This electronic innovation enables farmers to renew their permit book applications through the Internet.

“With e-Permits, we are eliminating the need for paper forms, which saves time and processing costs,” said CWB President and CEO Greg Arason. “We will continue to expand e-Services to improve the support that we offer to farmers across Western Canada. These are innovative services that are squarely focused on farmers’ business needs.”

Each farmer who markets grain through the CWB fills out an annual permit-book application to record deliveries of wheat, durum and barley. The new e-Permit system enables farmers and their agents to renew the permits quickly and simply, using a secure online process.

In addition to the new interactive e-Permits, the CWB Web site hosts existing e-Services such as 24-hour access, seven days a week, to CWB delivery contracts, cash advance account information, and Producer Payment Option (PPO) contract information.

Several new interactive e-Services are planned over the next 18 months, such as the sign-up of PPO contracts, producer-car ordering and farmer account management – which will eventually give farmers individualized online access to all their business dealings with the CWB, in an increasingly interactive fashion.

These upcoming e-Services will boost the CWB’s ability to provide convenient and current information to farmers and other stakeholders. The project is part of a larger CWB undertaking to transform and update systems and process for its entire supply chain -- will allow farmers to save even more time and money.

Farmers and CWB agents are eligible to register for e-Services, including e-Permits. To register, go to www.cwb.ca, click e-Services in the menu bar, and then follow the instructions under “How do I register?”. Users need only register once to access e-Services.

Controlled by western Canadian farmers, the CWB is the largest wheat and barley marketer in the world. One of Canada’s biggest exporters, the Winnipeg-based organization sells grain to over 70 countries and returns all sales revenue, less marketing costs, to farmers.
